The Half Check Dog Training Collar
As anyone who has attended one of my training classes I rave about the use of half check collars. Several handlers and dogs have arrived with pups on any thing from slip leads, flat collars, to harnesses and retractable leads. Everyone has left with the ability to control their dog in a safer and more successful way by changing to using a Half Check Collar
BUT !
Before you rush out and buy one from one of the pet sheds, STOP !!
The pet shed ones have a few issues with its design.....
Firstly, they to be adjusted in size once over the dog’s head
Secondly, There is no way of getting it off in a hurry if your dog gets tangled up
Thirdly, There is no where for the safe fixing of an ID tag
Finally, No one at the shop can give you the knowledge on how to use them correctly and successfully!
However, with the Half Checks available through both Breckland Dog Training and our training partners Norfolk Dog Training, these issues were rectified by Norfolk Dog Training, making the half check collars offered by us much better.
The half check collars offered to our clients include,
- 3 Collar sizes to suit your puppy / dog
- Quick release clip for quick and easy removal from your dogs neck of the collar, should they get tangled in the hedgerows!
- Locking mechanism on the collar to prevent accidental undoing of the collar
- D ring for ID Tag
The collar can be sized for the dog before its finally fixed around the dogs neck.
How is a Half Check Collar better than a Normal Flat Dog’s Collar?
Where a conventional collar is able to slide off the dog’s neck and over its head if the dog pulls back, the half check collar tightens (NOT TO THE POINT OF STRANGLING OR HARMING YOUR DOG) to give a snug pain free fitting around the neck, without being able to come back over the dogs head, and setting them free.
A conventional collar, if you have a constant puller on the end of your lead, is going to do your dog injury to its windpipe due to the constant pressure on it when the dog pulls forward.
The added advantage of the half check is a quality metal chain that makes a rasping noise as the links are pull through the O rings on the collars, a noise which is audible to the dog, and in the majority of cases is not liked when the dog is pulling.
When fitted and used correctly, many clients have found its by far the best option for getting their dogs to walk on a loose lead.
