Whistle Recall Training for Puppies

The use of the whistle in calling your dog back, is not used as widely as it can be and in most instances where it is used, it’s used incorrectly.
Why is it so good ?
It’s non emotional.
It’s sound carries better than the human voice in windy / breezy conditions.
It creates a lot of interest as far as the dog is concerned.
It’s SO SO easy to train your dog to come when it hears the whistle.
Having recently collected my new Working Lab Pup ‘Reeve’ from the breeder, the only thing I have set about teaching her in the first few weeks since she arrived is a whistle recall, That is to say wherever she is, upon hearing the whistle, she drops what she is doing, whether it’s chewing the plants in the garden or watching cat videos on You Tube, upon hearing the whistle she should come running, and quickly.
So how do we train it? Well I could sit here and spout of a page of crap on how to do it, but for the first 4 weeks of your pup being at home you are only going to do one thing …
Blow the whistle every time you are preparing your pups meal, at all mealtimes, and continue to blow that whistle whilst its eating. Make sure you blow multiple pips on the whistle to create a busy exciting noise that the pup can associated with its meal time. Do nothing else other than this for 4 weeks as soon as you get your pup home.
Where do you get a whistle ?
