Are half check collars cruel ?
In short NO they are not, like any dog training equipment, when they are used correctly !
There are a number of benefits of the half check collar, that make them not just a training collar. You may also know them as half slip, or martingale, but here they are called a half check, because when used correctly they are a successful training tool for 'checking' unwanted behaviour.
When fitted correctly, the half check collar is when sized at its smallest, it is snug around the dogs neck without choking or strangling the dog. When its loose it makes for a very comfortable collar for the dog. When the collar is snug, then its not going to come back over the dogs head, and allow it to escape, unlike ill fitting collars or harnesses.
They are the perfect training tool to communicate correctly with the dog to correct it for unwanted behaviour. Not convinced, you will be after a 121 training session here at Ashill.
