9 Things you need to ask any dog trainer you are thinking of using for help in training your new puppy
Due to the increasing number of clients coming to us recently, having been to food based trainers in the area which has failed both them and their dogs. I thought I would put together a few questions you need to ask any trainer you are thinking of using for help in training your new puppy.
The early stages of your puppies training and development is CRUCIAL in moulding a well mannered, obedient and fun dog to be around. So make sure you are comfortable that your dog trainer CAN help you.
Will you be teaching us stuff we need everyday or tricks and stuff ? I want to be able to walk my dog on loose lead, sit until its told to move, and come when called, is that all covered?
How can I build a bond with my dog using purely food?
Why is the course only ‘X’ weeks long, and what can I realistically expect my dog to be doing at the end of it?
Will my dog still do stuff for me if I haven’t got food with me?
Why do you use food as a primary reinforcer / Reward?
Will you be showing us how to wean our puppy off of treats as learning develops ?
If I need to use high value food for getting my dog to sit in class, what will we need to be using when the environmental distractions increase in the real world ?
Will you be showing us how to stop unwanted behaviour effectively ?
What help will I get outside of your classes if its needed?
