Training your Labrador, Springer, Cocker or any of the gundog breeds out there does not mean you have to take your dog on a shoot. In fact 80% of our clients will never go on a shoot, instead choose to train and provide meaningful mental stimulation for their dogs, and in the process improve their relationship with their dog, and also the dogs manners and general behaviour.
Ensuring your dog gets a good physical workout is a must, but far more important is to give your dog a mental workout.
So how can gundog training help you and your dog? Well, it channels your dog's desire to chase and fetch things, but at the same time improves obedience, as you make yourself more important to your dog.
Most dog owners start out with their dogs in classes, shoving them full of food for 6 weeks, then wonder why they have retained none of the training when they go outside. Quite simply put, chasing things and other undesirable behaviour is more interesting than being with you!! Yep, you are probably too boring for your dog, so it will choose to succumb to the environmental distractions such as chasing rabbits, pheasants, eating dead animals, and generally buggering off at the slightest opportunity.
So, how does gundog training help you ?
For starters, your dog needs you and you need your dog, in order to be a successful partnership.
If you have a dog that loves to fetch things, then you have a great starting point. Now that we have a dog that wants to chase and retrieve that will become the main reward system for the dog, ironic really, as they were bred to chase and retrieve, we just want to integrate it as part of our time out with our dogs and more importantly during our training.
With gundog training you will improve all manner of aspects of your dogs obedience:-
Lead walking
Sitting & Steadiness
Recall
Find Its & Retrieve
Whistle commands
Agility
Much Much More.
Now, before you start thinking gundog training is stuck in the past with harsh correction methods and such like, you are wrong, well, not completely wrong, some trainers still adopt those methods, but NOT here at Breckland Dog Training. We want you and your dog to succeed, and as such set the dog up for success from the start, thus very rarely do we need to correct anything.
To get involved with our Gundog Training 4 Fun, you will need to get yourself onto one of our 2 Hour Introduction Sessions where we will show you, using existing clients and their own dogs, just exactly what can be achieved with this very enjoyable and rewarding training programme.
