Why should pet dog owners consider gundog training?
We have seen a massive increase in calls from clients looking for gundog training for their pet dogs over recent months and when we dig deeper we find many reasons why this has been the case.
Reasons including…
“My puppy trainer says I need gundog training for my dog”
“I need more obedience from my dog”
“I want more mental stimulation for my dog”
“I was told you can deal with chasing wildlife etc “
“I want a job for my dog that doesn't involve so much food”
“I want more of a relationship with my dog”
,
In short gundog training it appears is seen as a quick fix in some minds to obedience / behaviour problems, its far from that, the reason why gundogs are so well behaved (in the majority of cases) is that we put soooo much effort into training our dogs, probably more so than many other dog disciplines.
Where a pet dog owner will ask their dog to sit, it sits and invariably gets up and walks off on its own say so, a gundog owner will ask their dog to sit, knowing that it will remain sat until its given its next job to do. Its all about consistency, sadly lacking from many run of the mill pet dog trainers, who rely on the latest fad training to spark interest in the dog owners mind. Clicker this, food that etc etc.
Gundog training is all about the basics, that every dog owner seems to want, but is sadly left wanting (based upon our research) by their run of the mill pet dog trainer.
Walking on a loose lead and not pulling
Sitting and steadiness when with distractions
Solid recall (not just in a village hall in the pursuit of cooked chicken, but) in the real world where the real distractions to your dogs live!
General calmness and obedience
A solid bond
Boundaries and manners
All this is achieved without kicking and punching 7 bells out of the dogs until they do as they are asked, which seems to be the uneducated view of gundog trainers in some within the pet dog world.
So, how can gundog training help you and your dog?
Well, we have put together a comprehensive training programme for our clients, which involves help and training on getting the high levels of obedience we get from our working gundogs, alongside the fun stuff, Chasing, Sniffing and Retrieving !!
All our sessions are divided in two and we work on Gundog Obedience exercises which all our pet dog and Gundog owners can achieve in the real world with distractions, and then incorporating this obedience into training exercises for enhancing our skills and giving our dogs the opportunities to run of steam in a controlled environment, Where success is as good as your consistency.
