The No.1 Problem We deal with on a daily Basis!
Breckland Dog Training recieve many calls from dog owners to help them with their training based problems. Without doubt the No. 1 we get asked is...
How can I stop my dog pulling on a lead?
Most dog owners are desperate to get their puppies out on a walk, before they have even been conditioned to a lead and collar. They normally amp them up by using phrases such as 'Walkie's winding the dog up before they have even left the house. Well guess what, the only person that is to blame for your dog pulling on the lead is... YOU
- Have you heard yourself saying 'Go and say hello' resulting in your puppy or dog pulling to human or another dog and being rewarded by interaction with them? Well congratulations you are teaching them to pull!
- Have you allowed your pup or dog to 'Go Sniff' obediently following your dog with a tight lead wherever your dog wants to go? Well congratulations you are teaching them to pull!
- There are many ways, your dog has trained you to let it pull, and many mistakes that we all make to help that process, which when the puppy reaches adult hood becomes a major issue.
Did you know, if your dog has little to no self control when you are stood still talking to a friend, then it is going to have less self control when you start walking, and if your dog pulls it's also in a roundabout way going to affect your recall. It will also certainly affect your ability to walk your dog to heel offlead.
So what can be done?
In the first instance book an initial 121 with Steve. Steve will go through whats going wrong (without any judgement) set your dog up for success and then show you how to repeat the training which Steve shows you.
