Stop your Dog pulling on the lead in less than an hour
One of the biggest problems we get asked for help on a daily basis, from clients, is how to stop their dog pulling on the lead. In most cases those clients contacting us have been bribing their dog with food within an indoor environment as ‘instructed’ but when it comes to outdoors that food does not cut it. Whilst in many of the cases the client has sought help from the ‘instructor’ the majority of those ‘instructors’ have been unable to offer any help other than that given in the class.
You have probably also been told to….
- Put a harness on your dog - THAT DOES NOT STOP PULLING OF THE LEAD!! Even the manufacturers of the harnesses I have questioned say the same thing - you need to train your dog to walk on a loose lead.
- Carry HIGH VALUE TREATS - THAT DOES NOT STOP PULLING OF THE LEAD!! When distractions in the real world come into the equation.
- Change direction - THAT DOES NOT STOP PULLING OF THE LEAD!! - Just creates confusion on the dogs' part.
- Stop walking forwards - THAT DOES NOT STOP PULLING ON THE LEAD!! - That just resets the dog before it starts pulling again.
- Throw food on the floor - THAT DOES NOT STOP PULLING ON THE LEAD!! - It increases the pulling so the dog can seek out the next bit of food.
Virtually all the trainers we have been told about do not teach loose lead walking in the real world. It's too easy to get success indoors with cooked chicken shoved under the nose, why would they bother ?
