We have been having sessions on recall and lead work with Steve for some weeks now. Having seen a few treat trainers in the area previously it was evident either they didn't understand our adolescent labrador or just didn't have Steve's understanding of how to get the best out of our Harry.
Within a single session, we could see more changes (for the better) than we had previously had in several weeks with the other trainers. Harry responded so well to Steve's almost black-and-white approach, with little and often calm praise. Steve knows what he is doing, always explains things in a way you can understand, and is more than happy to adjust his methods if they can not work for the client. It's now an absolute pleasure to be out and about with Harry, and we are already getting friends and family asking if we have swapped him with another dog. If you want results for you and your dog then you need Steve.
We had used other trainers with little progress a dog walker recommended Breckland and it was the best move we made getting in contact with Steve. Our sprocker and us have made so much progress. We can now enjoy wonderful times on walks and off lead with our Bailey thanks to the excellent training. Thank you Steve
I first met Steve a few years back. Reasonably typical story, bought a puppy, thought it was going to be easy . . it wasn't. . ended up getting dragged on walked, after one particularly horrible walk got to the point 'enough is enough' help me google! found Breckland Dog Training, booked in for a 1:1 with Steve . . best session I've ever had, within 10 min Chester was walking to heal. Turns out it was me who was doing it all wrong, not the dog!
Following the 1:1 Chester & I attended a series of group classes with both Mel & Steve both the classes and the other dog owners really made the experience beneficial. We've since bought another dog (Arlo) and having learnt from our mistakes decided to do things properly this time, so have followed the placeboard training, attending weekly puppy classes, a few 1:1's to get Arlo to a standard I can take him on a shoot. Having watched Steve working his dogs 'in the real world' and hearing compliments from the 'guns', 'pickers' and 'brushers' about 'how well Steve's dogs perform, it is clear he does actually know what he's on about . . .although don't say I said that! I can honestly say if you want results, are prepared to actually listen to the instruction provided and do you 'homework' then Steve, Mel & Breckland are the right call.
Me and Bleu just completed our puppy foundation course and honestly I don’t know where we would of been if we hadn’t of done it! Mel was amazing…full of information very helpful and always on the other end of the phone if needed. I now have a 14 week old Weimaraner that has learnt several commands and walks perfectly on the lead. Cannot wait to start the puppy classes to continue our journey.
My Lab had been attending reward based / force free training with another trainer for over a year - with no discernible results. He still had little or no recall and was a nightmare to take for a walk. Having found Breckland Dog Training via Google (and having read the reviews!) I booked an initial consultation with Steve, followed by a series of 1:1 sessions. From the first session the difference in my dog was marked, Steve changed the collar I was using and advised against using a harness. 6 months on (and after a lot of 'homework') I have a dog with solid reliable recall who doesn't chase after other dogs or deer, pheasants, rabbits etc. He is an absolute pleasure to go on a walk with now - the nightmare is over and it's thanks to Steve. He listens to what your dog-related problems are and has the knowledge and expertise to address them with what works best for both you and your dog. Thank you Steve!
I brought my 5mth old lab to puppy classes feeling really nervous and she was all over the place. A 1:2:1 was suggested and I am so glad I did. One hour and not only is my puppy engaged and walking nicely but my confidence and enjoyment is back. Thank you! X x x
Just finished their 6 week puppy training plan which was ran by Mel and Steve. I really can't thank them enough for their dedication, expertise and commitment they put into this training. I have a border collie who has become a superb loving and obedient pet. The attention you are given is second to none as they are in constant contact with you everyday for advice and guidance whilst you are not at the training ground. I would honestly recommend this to everyone who has a puppy or an older dog as these people really do make a difference. It doesn't just stop there, there is an after care plan put in place which you can use if you need further assistance. So glad I found them, very impressed!! Thankyou!!!!
Would highly recommend Breckland Dog Training School.
I have a miniature Schnauzer, and the Puppy classes exceeded my expectations and it’s given me the confidence to be consistent with the on going training methods. Also great it’s outside so in a more natural environment for the dogs. Mel & Steve are highly experienced and made the classes good fun all round.
When I first brought my puppy to Breckland Training she was all over the place. 6 sessions in and she is now a totally different dog, the change in her behaviour over only a few weeks has been remarkable. Truly grateful to Mel and Steve for their continued support and will be recommending them in future.
Puppy and I have just completed our first 6 week session and can honestly say that this is one of the best dog training classes I have been to.
The lessons are varied and trainers are very friendly. There is a sense of strictness about the training centre, but you very quickly understand that this makes for a very safe and rewarding environment. Lots of emphasis on training the Human as well as the dog. Would highly recommend to anyone (with a dog of course). We’re certainly looking forward to continuing our training.
We have been to see Steve on several occasions for 1-1 sessions over the past 5 months with our Cocker Spaniel Bailey. We were needing some help with walking on a lead but within minutes Steve had Bailey walking with him like a dream he also advised us on the type of lead which has made such a difference. Also within the first session he had him coming to us on recall with a whistle. Absolutely Amazing!!
Steve has also helped us with calming Bailey down at home as he didn’t no how to switch off and sit with us in the evenings. Steve came to our house to see how he behaves and taught us a few things about our behaviour as well as Baileys and now he cuddle’s up to us on the sofa at night and most importantly he listens to us more. He is still a work in progress but never thought he would ever do this. Steve is an awesome dog trainer who listens to your needs and works with you to find solutions to your dog’s behaviour. We can’t recommend him highly enough.
1:1 with Steve today was an absolute game changer. He really knows dogs, and as importantly their humans! He listens to concerns and worries and offers constructive, achievable advice. Never criticised and helped us work out what we could be doing better. We were never made to feel incapable and came away with more confidence. How our dog immediately responded to him in a respectful, positive way was incredible! If you are thinking about 1:1 with Steve. Don’t hesitate, just go for it!
We have just completed our 3rd 1:1 training session with Steve, who has been incredible.
I cannot believe the difference we have seen in our working cocker spaniel, even from the first session we saw a massive difference. We dealt with so many things in such a short time…Lead issues, control, listening, bonding with our dog…the list goes on and it now feels we have the dog we always dreamt of at 11 months old. Steve is so understanding, patient and passionate and it makes training really enjoyable but you also don’t feel stupid and it’s a very comfortable setting. I always have a list of questions and none of them are ever any trouble. I am so grateful we found him and would recommend him to anyone and everyone!! Ps: you only have to see his own dogs in action to see how good he is! They are amazing! Thank you Steve!
We booked some sessions with Steve when our Labrador was 18 months old - I wish that we had found Steve when she was 8 weeks old!!
We had done other training with her right from day 1 but just felt we weren’t on the right track, the methods we were using weren’t working and everyone was getting frustrated. Steve has been fantastic and was just what we needed; he has a no-nonsense honest approach which really works, the difference even after just 1 session was noticeable. Steve is extremely knowledgeable and his passion for training dogs (and their owners!) is clear to see.
Olive and I went to see Steve for three 121 sessions. In those three hours I learned how to build a partnership with my pup, she now has reasonable recall, which is a miracle for a sighthound! Highly recommend Steve.
Just completed 3 121's with Steve and a very excitable working cocker Spaniel. First session went in defeated with no confidence in handling my dog, there was an immediate improvement which has continued to the last session. It's work in progress and I need to up my game but Steve has given me so much confidence and hope that Louie will become the dog I want him to be. Thank you Steve cannot recommend your effective, common sense approach to training both the owner and dog enough.Just wished I lived nearer so I could have bought him to you in the first place !!!
We cannot recommend Steve highly enough! We tried several other trainers all of which made us feel we’d made a huge mistake getting two brothers walking together was impossible, treats didn’t work after a while they soon realised how to get around it!…we were told we wouldn’t be able to walk them together until they were much older.
Steve was the only trainer who didn’t judge us….and in just one session with each of our boys we left with two totally different dogs…(I cried on the way home) we now happily walk them together I can even walk them on my own…he works absolute magic but explains everything to you. My two absolutely love going to Steve’s and so do we!…don’t waste your money anywhere else! (We do a two hour round trip he’s that good!)
I brought Sidney for a Gun for Fun session - suffice to say Sid did not take to it and I was quite upset but Steve was so brilliant and said to go back for a one-to-one and we would get through the problems. When we went back Sid was a completely different dog and, in the nicest possible way, Steve gave me subtle clues (some not so subtle!) as to what could be done and we have got another session booked in already. I have much more confidence now - Steve has so much understanding of the relationships between dogs/owners and notices the slightest thing - over the moon that we have found him and Sid will go from strength to strength (though not in the vocal cord area!!)
I attended one of the training session with our 10 month old cocker spaniel Ozzy. Ozzy loves to greet people and other dogs, within minutes of the session starting Steve had calmed Ozzy down and he was a completely different controllable dog. An excellent morning was spent with Steve and Mel and I’ve gone away so much more knowledge and things to work on.Steve and Mel are excellent at what they do.
Wandering into a field of excited and inquisitive puppies was chaotic and noisy. Steve and Mel were not only able to calm the situation but provided a detailed reason behind the cause. Their passion for dogs is clear to see and their teaching methods put both owners and dogs at ease. Amazing results in a very short time scale. Lots of out of class tips and lessons to keep the improvements coming.
Thanks Steve and Mel.
We went to the class to understand how to train our dog to walk to heel without the use of treats. We had used treats from an early age and it soon became apparent that when no treats were available our dog switched off from us and we had little control when out walking him on the lead.
The class (lead walking) helped us to understand what to do and when to do it and the correct training aids to use. Within one hour and without treats our dog started to understand what was expected of him on the lead. We can appreciate that once we put into practice all that was learnt and with consistency our walks will be much more enjoyable for us and more importantly for our dog.
How many times do you say to yourself 'if only', well if only we'd found Steve & Mel a year ago!
After trying about 5 different types of lead, getting frustrated, not wanting to go for walks where we may met other people or dogs. The 1st training session with Steve was amazing, opening comments 'You don't want that lead, or that one & you can put that one back in the car!' before the end to the 1st lesson Chester was walking to heal, 1st time EVER! 4-lessons in and I'm super impressed Training that WORKS with a team that are absolutely on-point. Goes without saying that Breckland Dog Training are highly recommended Many thanks| Ed, Tina & Chester
Four sessions in and our now 1 year old Cocker Spaniel Tzuke has become far nicer to lead walk, chills much quicker at home and now more obedient on recall too. Steve is working miracles with our highly excitable four legged friend - thank you.
We are first time puppy owners and at first felt daunted by the training process however, Steve and Mel quickly put our minds at ease and have been so supportive. Mel is currently taking us through a 6 week 1-2-1 block of training sessions and she’s been absolutely brilliant. Her instructions are clear and easy to understand and Mabel is making really good progress, which is amazing to see. Each day we are sent little tasks which really helps to keep us on track. We can’t thank you both enough for all your help and support!

Previous training involved copious amounts of treats and little progress so it’s lucky we found Steve. The classes are great but the blocks of 121 sessions give you tailored, practical training and visible results (if you are prepared to put in the practice). He transformed me from an anxious, novice dog owner with lively puppy into a dog lover with a best mate. I now have the confidence and ability to train and control our puppy so we can continue to progress under Steve’s guidance. I wish we had found him earlier as his puppy training would have helped us prepare for our puppy’s transition into the home and family saving us many sleepless nights. Can’t thank Steve enough and we will continue training with him long term.
An hour 1-2-1 with Steve and Freddy has been a different dog to walk no more pulling and much better around other dogs, Thank you
Myself and my Golden Retriever puppy have just completed 6 sessions of 1 2 1 lessons with Steve. We have both gained a lot from the experience. Steve has helped us grow our relationship and given us both the confidence to work hard and get what we want out of our training sessions. As a novice gundog owner it was great to have some guidance on what is common in these breeds. I intend to work with Steve again in the future to continue to progress our learning and skills. The facilities that Steve has are excellent (location, parking, space etc). Very satisfied.
Our 18 month working cocker had lost his recall on walks with lots of game scents. Steve has worked patiently with him on the 10 week course and we’ve really turned the corner such that I feel confident walking with him off lead again.
I have a number of new techniques for keeping his attention now and am properly enjoying what spaniel life should be. Steve shows you that working consistently with your pup will bring results.
Archie our Springer Spaniel puppy attended day training with Steve and his team. Archie made excellent progress with a report of the training given at the end of the day including homework!
We thoroughly recommend the day training it has made Archie very good at recall plus working with people unknown to him. Steve is always willing to discuss any issues and offer professional advice in a friendly way.
We have just had our first meeting with Steve and our boy Bruce was like a different dog in minutes and was totally focused on Steve , couldn't thank him enough ,lots of homework for us ,and I can't wait for our next lesson
This morning we took our 15 month old lab to Steve as we are struggling to gain control with our dog when he is on the lead, as he loves to pull. As we got out of the car our lab pulled me over to Steve and was very excited to meet him by jumping up on many occasions.??????? An hour later walking back to our car our dog walked by our side, calmed and under our control. He was like a different dog.
I was very unsure on what to expect when arriving today but I can not recommend Steve enough. His time and knowledge that he shared with us was amazing. Not only has be begun to teach our dog correct behaviour he has also made myself and my husband aware of our bad habits which you possibly wouldn’t recognise as being bad habits! We can now see how they could confuse our dog and not get the best behaviour out of him. We look forward to our next session with Steve and watching our pup develop under his guidance and becoming a much more enjoyable dog to walk ??
We’ve had two sessions out of six so far with Steve to help us train our 1 year old cocker. His training methods are amazing and have already completely transformed our crazy dog, just by teaching us what we were doing wrong this whole time. I cannot wait to see the progress continue with our next few sessions and we are so grateful for the progress so far!
Just a thankyou to Steve, for another great training session last night. He’s making such a difference with our dog. Better lead walking and general understanding. Working on recall now too.
We’ve already had the best walk this morning after just one session with the new lead.
I have been having 1 to 1 sessions with Steve to train myself and our very large/strong Alaskan Shepherd who will be 1 in September.
Before training with Steve, I dreaded taking him for walks, he was reactive to other dogs and anything that moved and he pulled ?? It became relentless..then Steve was recommended to me by a friend and numerous others in the area and everything changed ?? I was completely blown away after just our first session and came away with so much more knowledge and a newfound confidence! ???? After just a handful of sessions we have combatted so much..pulling on the lead/reacting to other dogs/cats/birds (you name it!) using praise and lots of it ?? We are now working on long line recall with a whistle and already nailing it ???? I know of others who have used alternative trainers in the area, spent copious amounts of money ?? over long periods of time and still haven’t combatted the important stuff. Steve is on call 24/7 with any advice/memory refreshes and generally if you need a moan about other dog walkers (the ones that are off lead with zero recall and general bad manners ?? which become way more apparent when you have your dog trained by your side ??). We really couldn’t recommend Steve enough..best money we have ever spent..extensive facilities and knowledge - in a nutshell the holy grail of dog trainers in the Norfolk! ??????
Initial one to one training with Steve for our young lively Ridgeback Leila developed into a ten week course last year. We both learnt skills to practice together which have longer term benefits. Steve is extremely knowledgeable about dogs and patient with people. Highly recommended. Need to book more recall training to reinforce my learning.
Steve has been training me for a few months now and he has kindly always let my dog come with me. Steves simple, no nonsense training is invaluable. No messing about, no fluffy stuff just fantastic, knowledgable and fun training. The dog has watched me learn, joined in on occasions and enjoyed every minute. Steve has the patience to answer my multitude of questions and is on hand virtually 24/7 via email and messaging for help and guidance between sessions.
Steve is an amazing trainer and mentor and cannot be rated highly enough. Check out Breckland raw food too where Steves wife, again is an absolute font of knowledge, happy to advise and supply all you need to feed your dog the healthiest and best raw food diet it deserves after a session on the paddock with Steve. Thank you so very much Steve and Suzanne
Have started the mantrailing course and am hooked! It is so much fun for you and your dog.I've learned so much more about my dog, how his nose works and reading his body language. Simon is a phenomenal teacher who makes learning interesting and fun, everyone with a dog should have a go!

Wow, what fantastic results in no time at all. After engaging 5 different "dog tainers" and 2 different "dog behaviourists" and spending huge sums of money in the process with absolutely nothing to show in return, I was bordering on despair with my loveable dogs. One of my dogs, Jaz, has from a very early age been a constant puller on the lead and a lunger at passing cars to the extent that he we pull me into the road and has caused me severe ligament damage to both arms and wrists. These two issues alone are something I have been unable to correct with any significant change or regularity, until now !!.
I came across Steve Swallow purely by accident, and having read the fantastic reviews I was very impressed but also slightly sceptical at the same time. I decided to take a chance and travel from our home in Kent to Norfolk in the hope that Steve could make a difference. I booked in my two 4 year old Border Collies (Jaz & Willow) for three 121 sessions with Steve. The transformation within the first 10 minutes was nothing short of incredible to see first hand. Steve is not a Dog Whisperer, he is not a miracle worker, he is just an honest, down to earth, no nonsense, but knowledgeable and extremely experienced dog trainer who is passionate about dogs and also about making a difference to dog owners to make their relationship with their dogs much more enjoyable. Having returned home, I and more importantly my wife, can now walk Jaz and Willow individually on a loose lead with no pulling whatsoever, we can also walk both dogs together with very little pulling/competition but this is still very much a work in progress. More importantly, the lunging at cars issue has significantly improved to the extent that Jaz looks and makes to move towards them, but with the knowledge and methods that Steve taught together with praise for Jaz as instructed rather than irritation and frustration on my part, the improvement is nothing short of incredible. Steve also helped with obedience and recall during our sessions with him and the relationship with and enjoyability of walking our two dogs has within three days changed significantly for the better, we cannot thank Steve enough for his patience with myself and my wife, for his knowledge, experience and methods of training dogs, and more importantly for making the whole experience such fun and so enjoyable to be a part of. If anyone out there is struggling with their dogs training, obedience and behaviour issues, as we did, I would thoroughly recommend Steve without hesitation, and I now understand and believe the reviews that Steve gets and deservedly so. Thank you Steve so much for the pleasure of working with you. Ian & Susan Lyth
Thank you Steve for my one to one yesterday with Jess .I found the advice given excellent & will certainly be putting into practice what I was shown work with Jess on her lead pulling . I can highly recommend Breckland dog training .

I acquired my gorgeous lab pup Ned through a comprehensive package offered by Breckland Dog Training. It gave me total trust & confidence that my labrador pup came from a reputable and trustworthy source and included initial training which has shaped him into the chilled, lovely natured and easy to manage chap that he is. The weaning and continued advice and support on diet has been invaluable and the ongoing training is top quality. This is the way to take on a puppy with confidence and peace of mind.

Wow, what a difference in our dog's behaviour after one session with Steve, on Saturday. Steve understood the issues we are having with our dog and, more importantly, showed us how to correct our dog's very bad behaviour whilst out walking him. He has proved to us that our dog can be trained to walk calmly and not to react to everything he comes across. We know we have a lot of work to do with our dog but we are now more confident in our handling of our dog and, in turn, have a happier, calmer dog.
Thank you very much, Steve
we took our 7 month old boxer to Steve for help, One problem we have been struggling with for months Steve had under control in less than 5 Minutes, and gave us plenty to work on until the next lesson
My dog has just finished his ten 1-2-1 training sessions with Steve. He’s a 4yr old border collie who was totally wired most of the time. Always anticipated commands and a nightmare to keep calm if anyone moved or cane to the house. He will now stay down until released. Walks off lead to heel in a much calmer way, no bouncing around. Brilliant at whistle commands so no need to shout anymore. Hector loved his days with Steve and Suzanne and is now saving up for some more. This is the only place I would go to for dog training. The best! ????
I contacted Steve as I had a problem with another dog trainer, to which I would never recommend to anyone . Steve has gone out of his way to help me and train my Labrador . He is an amazing dog trainer . You can tell he absolutely loves his job and the dogs enjoy the training. After a short time with Steve, my Labrador has been transformed . An amazing difference and starting basis to continue training . He is quick to respond to messages and gives his honest opinion which I like . A real genuine guy . I would recommend Steve to anyone wanting to train their dog. Very happy to Say the least .
Steve is very knowledgable, patient and friendly! I’ve just finished our second session with my very energetic and boisterous 16 month old lab, and already we’ve achieved more in 2 hours that I’ve been struggling to do for the last year! In the first session Steve had him walking to heel on an loose lead within minutes, and has taught me useful techniques that I can put into practice on walks and at home. I would highly recommend!
Had a puppy training session with our minature schnauzer and neither my wife or I could believe the progress that was made in such a short time. Her barking and lead pulling got sorted really quickly. This guy really knows what he is doing and we thoroughly recommend him.
We had a 121 lesson with Steve for our 4 year old Springer who always took us on a walk and was a nightmare with other dogs. I can’t believe how much we have taken away with us in just one session. Looking forward to putting the techniques to practice!
My working cocker is now 6 and a half years old. Steve changed my life in one training session. My partner had trained our boy as much as he could then needed some guidance for the last bit of rough shooting, however I still didn’t have control of him as my partner was his master. As much as I loved him it was so hard to take him for a walk as he would run away from me or I would keep him on his lead and neither of us enjoyed it. I spent one hour with Steve 6 yeas ago and it changed my life, I now understand what my boy needs and understands. I now get to have fantastic walks with him which is great for him and my mental health plus I can go shooting with my beautiful boy. Thank you Steve with lots of love from Diggle and Mary xx
Had two sessions with Steve so far with my 14 week old miniature labradoodle. Looking for some guidance as complete newbie to having a dog. I had researched a fair bit and found it all so confusing but knew that I wasn't keen on the treat lead training.
I feel Steve has a great personality and teaches the dog and more importantly , the owner, how to behave -a firm but kind way! It has always been a huge annoyance to me when dog owners do not keep their dogs under control and I am hoping to be on the right side of this in managing my pup. If not I will be out there annoying the general public! I feel I have the best chance with Steve's support to have a happy dog and happy owner ! Watch this space..... Lou :) Sarah Vickers

In just one session we have a plan of how to tackle our dog's car refusal. Even more importantly we understand better how his behaviour fits in to the bigger picture of our relationship with him and how we handle him more generally! Really positive and exciting stuff. After two days of working on a problem that has existed for 9 years we are making progress and my hope of being able to take him with me on our adventures has been revived! Thank you
I wish I had brought my boy here sooner! I took Willow to a local trainer soon as he was up to date with jabs, and I wish I hadn’t. Was heavily treat orientated. I took him to two sessions then stopped. Researched and found Steve. It’s not all about training the dog, it’s about training you the human also. I have always wanted a gundog, and to see family members work dogs is something to be appreciated. Now that I am learning to work my own Steve’s constant reassurance and support is something worth investing!
My boy and I have come on leaps and bounds and he absolutely loves the training ( slightly impatient ) but he will get to where he needs to be! I wish I had taken him to Breckland before the other so called trainer. If you’re looking for the complete package and wanting to crack key to a perfect partnership. Without hesitation I would recommend Steve! 5***** Linda Last

I have been going to Steve since last year and I can honestly say that he worked miricles with me and my dog who spent most of the walk doing a worling dervish everytime she saw, heard or even sniffed another dog in the vicinity making me a nervous wreck. He has patiently helped us get to the best solution for us both and I can now walk down the road in control and with confidence and with her feeling better about walking out. We are still going to Steve and will continue to do so for further encouragement and work on those niggly bits. Even though he has had to be tough with her and me we both still love him for it ??
What a great service. We're currently doing Steve's "In home puppy training" with our 5mo corgi and hes come along so far. I'm not sure how Steve does it, but our once stubborn corgi is walking (mostly) beautifully on his lead, pays attention to us a lot more and has learnt so much from this course. Steve is great if you have any questions with quick replies and feedback on your "homework". Thank you Steve
Steve was an absolute MIRACLE worker and support to me and my family when dealing with our 2 dogs and their aggression issue. We were at the point they couldnt even be in the room together. Having tried other "behaviourists" Steve had them both sat side by side on lead on his first meeting them. He also could see who the instigator was which was the sweet as pie pup who had a knack for goading the older one. Since discussing the situation with Steve and our vet we got the youngster castrated so will see how that effects him in the coming months and we have a better atmosphere in the house as the whole family are now on the same page and know how to manage the situation. It may never be perfect but its much better than it was and neither dog needs rehomed!!! ??
Steve is a great trainer who obviously loves and understands dogs. We have a 7 month old Cocker Spaniel from working parents who is a lovely dog but we needed some guidance on training with walking on lead and recall. We have had two one to one sessions with Steve and they have proved really helpful and enabled us to take away useful training methods to practice. Pleased to say that we are progressing well with loose lead walking and having fun practicing exercises on a training lead.
Our pup exprienced a bit of tough love from Steve to educate her on what was and was not acceptable, leading her to worship Steve! Wish we could get that respect from her! Many thanks and a shame you are not a bit closer as would love to participate in some group classes.
The 121 training session with Steve was invaluable. Within that one hour my seven month pup was responsive and it is now a pleasure to take her for a walk. I highly recommend Steve for dog training.
Unbelievable! I’ve taken my Cocker Spaniel (16 months) to Steve for his first 121 session today for nervous barking at other people and dogs and also dragging me along on walks! within minutes Steve had Henry walking nicely beside him and completely under control! He’s taught me the proper techniques for use in the real world too, I’ve been home a couple of hours and couldn’t wait any longer to take him for a walk! With the knowledge fresh in my head, Henry walked to heal with a slack lead! AND I even managed to walk with another lady and her dog whilst having a conversation which would have been impossible before today! Henry did have a few little barks at the ladies dog, but applying the techniques I’d been taught he soon carried on walking calmly! Thank you so much Steve! Can’t wait for the next session!!
When I first read the reviews about Steve and his training I was convinced that they were too good to be true. He seemed to perform miracles on Norfolk's most unruly dogs, but with a 7 month old incredibly stubborn, delinquent, hyper Labrador, who I couldn't control when out, I decided to give it a go. It turns out Steve really can perform miracles! After just one 121, I suddenly have a dog that no longer drags me around on a walk, but stays calmly at my side, something I was convinced would take months to fix.
Following our second 121 today in the woods, he didn't vanish into the undergrowth and beyond like normal, he stayed with and responded to me working on a long line. The new clearer boundaries seemed to have rubbed off with his behaviour round the house too. (He now gets off the sofa when told instead of rolling over). Overall, it doesn't matter how unruly your dog is, Steve will be able to help and like me, you'll only wish you found him earlier!
I found a trainer who really knows what he is doing and actually wants to help me. After having 2 trainers who haven’t been very helpful at all I decided to try 121 training with Steve and after 1 session he has made me feel really positive. With me being in a wheelchair and never attempted to have him by my side as he pulled and barked at everything with whoever was walking him. But Steve soon put me at ease and we were attempt to walk him by my side in my wheelchair. It might of only been a short walk but I could see the positives and am really looking forward to practicing again and the next session. Steve is a great trainer who is positive and really knows his stuff. I would recommend him to anybody.
Just had our first 1 to 1 with Steve & my miniature schnauzer Jessie. I have had other trainers in the past who all used treats but since they didn't work I thought I would give Steve a go. What amazing results we got & after only 1 hour. Steve is very knowledgeable & answered all my questions. He also put me at ease which is no mean feat as I suffer from anxiety. How I wish I had got to Steve first as he is a most amazing trainer. I now have a little dog who doesnt bark at cars or people & who walks calmly by my side.
Thankyou so much ??
An excellent first 121 training session, lots of really helpful advice, looking forward to starting the puppy classes in January
Bella and I have been having 1-1 Gundog Training lessons for over a year now and we cannot recommend Steve highly enough.
We have had lessons on Obedience, Retrieves (both memory and blinds) working with both dummies and real game, Directional control and Water Work. We are now looking forward to our first season Picking Up and also entering some Gundog Working Tests too.
The beginners Gundog Training was great fun and also well-planned so that there is gradual and successful skill development for both the dogs and their handlers. Fynn and I really enjoyed our mornings in Steves’s class - as well as having a good time with knowledgeable, cheery, and friendly people, we’ve both learned a lot. It is so good to have training geared towards the instincts already there in Fynn’s breeding. It makes for a happy dog and therefore a very happy owner - what could be more worthwhile? I’d highly recommend these classes for the inquisitive handler as they provide a great insight and a excellent level of fun! we can’t wait for more upcoming classes!
Had a great session with Steve yesterday with our 21 month old Cockapoo. He’s friendly, knowledgeable and worked out his issues methodically and with kindness. One happy dog and super happy owners. Thank you
For the last 6 years my Border Collie has completely called the shots. This includes me being totally unable to stop her snarling and snapping her teeth at every other dog she sees. Consequently, I have to walk at times and places where the likelihood of her seeing other dogs is minimal.
By the end of my first session with Steve she was able to sit face to face and walk along side several different dogs and not pay them the slightest attention! I was absolutely speechless and couldn't believe what I was seeing. I left absolutely elated and couldn't wait to get home to walk her in the hope we bumped into some other dogs!! Cannot wait for the next session!
On my first visit with my little cross breed nervous dog who is very reactive to other dogs on lead. Steve immediately made me feel at ease and gave me some easy to implement techniques which instantly changed my dogs behaviour. I know I need as much training as my companion and Steve was professional and knowledgeable in his approach, direct and easy to understand. I am confident to go and build on my first steps and look forward to our next session.
Steve is fantastic. I thoroughly enjoy going to Steve’s training sessions because he is knowledgeable, friendly and supportive. He is always willing to help and I feel like I have achieved every lesson. I have taken both my previous and my current dogs to training sessions with Steve and I wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else. You’re awesome Steve!
Quite simply, amazing! In less than 1 hour Steve had my 1 year old cocker spaniel who has always been a puller on the lead and "rules the roost", walking to heel on loose lead, sitting and staying put. I know that it is up to me to now work on those basic skills but to see such an immediate response in my dog compared to the last year of trying various methods leaves me in no doubt that I will certainly be using Breckland Dog Training again to master the basics my beloved girl has so desperately needed. Thankyou Steve!
After trying numerous techniques, collars and harnesses I still could not managed to train my two 3 year old mastiff, lab mix bitches to walk to heel. After just one class both dogs have significantly improved and now walk lose lead next to me. We still have a long road ahead but at least I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel and I will be continuing to take them to classes to work on improving both dogs obidence.
Had me on the edge of my seat wanting to learn more let alone the dog.
I cannot recommend Steve enough. Last night was out first ever 121 dog training session and I cannot believe what happened in that hour I was totally amazed. Chocolate cockers are the worst to train he said within 5 minutes he had my dog under control and behaving like I have never seen before. I'm hoping after a few more sessions I will feel more relaxed at wanting to train my dog and take him out instead of me getting angry and my dog running away. I would recommend Steve to anybody that wants to learn along with their dog.
I can't recommend Steve enough! My lovely, but challenging cocker spaniel has been coming to class for some time.
Having owned spaniels for over 30 years this dog is the one who nearly broke my love for the breed. After a couple of 121 classes, in addition to the group lessons we have finally found what works for him. He is now a different dog! After a couple of hours with Steve I now have a dog that doesn't jump up at people, mouth, sits, but most importantly walks nicely on a lead, all with love and respect. Steve has a genuine love of dogs and training If you are not sure just come to one of the classes and see him work with people, and of course the dogs.
Just completed our first 121 session with Steve!
Wow!! I can't believe after one session how much better our 8 month old lab is! Instead of dreading going out for a walk because he's going to pull me the whole way or have to have him on a halti just to be able to walk him, I actually can't wait to take him out for a walk tonight!! I'm so excited for more training sessions now to watch how my dog is going to grow into a well trained and behaved dog! Thank you so much Steve for your help and I look forward to the next lesson!!! Anyone looking for someone to help with training a dog I can't recommend him enough! I just wish I found Steve when my cocker spaniel was a puppy! A fantastic lesson, lots to work on and I can't wait
Well what can I say......brilliant! I was a bit sceptical about dog trainers as there are a lot out there, who all have their own methods, which don't always suit and are not always effective. We have two welsh border collies and they were pulling our arms out! We had our first 1-2-1 with Steve and it was honestly, brilliant. He had our collies under control within minutes.
Steve trains on how to get the best from our dogs with very straight forward, clear and consistent commands AND IT REALLY WORKS! He is clearly very knowledgeable, passionate about dogs and training. There's no 'fluffiness' just consistency and praise. I cannot recommend Steve highly enough, he's a great honest trainer. His wife, Sue, who is also very knowledgeable about feeding dogs and has 'The Naked Dog Food Company' gave us lots of advice and information on feeding. So Steve, Sue thank you both so much and we will definitely see you again soon.
Steve is absolutely fantastic. Had control of our lab within minutes. The whole first session was outstanding on how well Maisy listened to him and the new techniques Steve has shown us are fantastic. Thank you for the great training, looking forward to the new things we will learn.
Simply amazing! A genuine love for dogs! and had our lab under control within 4 minutes truly amazing to watch!!! Also the techniques that Steve taught us were so simple and effective made dog walking very pleasurable again!! Looking forward to our next session thank you!
Steve has an excellent knowledge and a natural understanding of dogs. His classes have been great for our Springer Spaniel puppy and us. We have also had 1-2-1 training which has been very beneficial and was definitely worth it. He is a fantastic trainer and we highly recommend him to anyone considering attending his classes.
We've just had our first 1-2-1 home session with Steve. Our 10 month old Vizsla is lovely but we haven't done the best job in training her so far! I was immediately impressed with Steve's clear advice and effective demonstrations. I can see where we have been making a myriad of little mistakes with training and how to start rectifying them. Steve takes a positive, praise led, approach rather than a treat based system which I also really liked.
We've now got our home work to do and I'm already looking forward to our next session. I'm full of confidence that with Steve's expert guidance we will soon have a beautifully trained, even lovelier, dog.
Just had Steve out too see our lab x pointer, what a lovely guy! Instantly making a difference to our dogs behaviour and teaching us where we have been going wrong! Couldn't recommend him enough. We look forward too putting what you've taught us into motion, thank you
We have been coming to Steves classes for three weeks now and I have learnt a lot The approach is based on a great relationship with you and your dog - the dog doing what you want because it wants to please you and not because it's scared or wants a treat. Classes are small (no more than 8 dogs & handlers) and Steve is constantly reassuring and encouraging the owners - praising the good and explaining clearly why if something doesn't go right. Prepare for gentle teasing and many laughs! Highly recommended
Millie and I had our first 1-2-1 session with Steve tonight. He worked wonders with Millie (and myself) more than I expected from our first session. We have left with some great exercises for our homework, and lots of important tips to help with our training. Knowledgeable, friendly and clear training. I cant recommend Steve enough. Looking forward to our next session. Millie is exhausted and snoozing which is quite a feat for a 19 week cockerdor from working parents!
We had a 1-2-1 home session with Steve. He helped us with our Chihuahua puppy and Jack Russell. Steve was very knowledgable, honest and friendly and gave us lots of information and tips on training both our dogs. He even gave us information about the right dog food and better leads to use. Our Chihuahua has learnt very quickly from the training and is already so much better with his recall. Our Jack Russell is also progressing well. We would highly recommend this service and are very happy customers. Couldn't have asked for a better trainer. Thank you!
Honestly I can't believe how well my little cocker spaniel Buddy got on here after just a weekend! He's a changed dog, after being told we now know how to get him to walk well on a lead after loads of times of him wearing his pads out, barking at cars and us being walked by him, we now love taking him! He now has so much more respect for us and life is so much better for all of us and more importantly we know how to get the best out of him! Can't thank Steve enough and would not hesitate one bit taking buddy back there! THANK YOU!!!
First session this evening with my young cocker spaniel, Steve really knows his stuff and is very passionate about his training. The difference within 10 mins was amazing to see, definitely going to continue working with him future. Definitely recommend
Maizie seems to have calmed down a lot of late I am pleased to say. Having had her first season may have helped, but your guidance and help with me have no doubt been the main reason for her improvement. She is really quite good on the lead now and sitting well when asked to do so. I am continuing to work on recall!
I would like to thank you very much for your time and help and I do feel I have learnt a lot which I will do my best to put into practice. I will also have no hesitation in recommending you to other dog owners. I hope your business continues to flourish as you certainly deserve it to"
The introduction of a puppy to the household caused a complete change in behaviour of one of our dogs. We've tried every trick, treat and punishment we could think of and were at our wits end. We contacted Steve off the back of a recommendation. After spending just over an hour with us in our home, we now know what we were doing wrong. We implemented his simple yet effective ideas and saw immediate results after just one hour with him and I'm confident it will continue to get better.
After only a couple of lessons with Steve our German Shepard is progressing so quickly! From pulling on the lead to now walking nicely to heel, barking in the car to a nice peaceful journey and we now we have started some fun training games for her! Friendly, listens to our needs and gets results. Highly recommend!
I need to clarify just how amazing this is by explaining that since these adorable brothers hit puberty they have been impossible to walk on the lead together even to the point that on our recent trip to Skye Ian would walk with one dog out of sight then I would follow--- the pulling was horrendous!! At home lead walks had to be done separately!!
Just received this video update on the pups at their residential training! I cannot believe what I am seeing!!! I am absolutely over the moon!
We have a springer spaniel who we love dearly but wanted some advice on making the most of his intelligence and nipping some bad habits in the bud. We've had a couple of sessions with Steve who really speaks our language, training us as well as our pup and is clearly so passionate about the dogs he works with. He'd given us great advice on heel work and manners. We went on holiday for the first time recently, leaving our dog with Steve. I was given complete peace of mind when leaving him, Steve was so professional and friendly, I knew he was in good hands! We were asked what we wanted Steve to focus on with training and received regular updates across the week. On picking our pup up, it was clear he had a wonderful week with Steve, working hard and really enjoying every second. Our pup really wants to work and play now and we have been given the tools to keep him engaged and in control, it's only been a day or so but we can see the difference in his attention and willingness to work. Very happy owners and an even happier pooch. Thanks Steve, I wholeheartedly recommend you as a trainer and will be using your services to keep improving! Thanks!
It was lovely to meet you yesterday and was absolutely fabulous on how you corrected Andy’s behaviour so quickly on the spot. I am looking forward to receiving your email regarding our meeting and doing more with regards to both Patch and Andy’s behaviour.
They knew you were the boss at that point and although Patch disappeared into the other room that really surprised me as normally when I get visitors he goes into overdrive and all he seems to do is take his toys to the visitor and pesters them until they play with him so that was nice to see him not do that. Thank you once again and am so looking forward to our next meeting for further training.
Once again thank you for looking after Vera for the past few days.
The training you have given her has reinforced everything I have tried to do under your guidance, we are progressing steadily. I cannot say how happy I am to have met you; although I have owned dogs for some years and ‘trained’ them with the help of other trainers, your methods and ways of training are second to none. You are calm, your lessons well thought out and your professionalism shines through in every way. As a result of your guidance, I feel more confident and this is transmitted to my dog making the training enjoyable rather than a battle of wills. Thank you
I was having trouble with my Dalmatian Mika mainly recall until We had some training with Steve who was brilliant We both learned a lot and I couldn’t be happier with the results!
We struggled with walking our Labrador, she would pull like a train, we got in touch with Steve and with his advice we now have a far less stressed walk with her.
I had a problem with walking my dog on a loose lead. Steve managed to have it sorted within 1 session, and now its a joy to walk my Maisie.
Steve has had my Labrador Retriever for 10 Days to train Bailey I can’t believe the difference in Bailey so much calmer and more responsive and walks a lot better on the lead… I.e no pulling… I can’t thank Steve enough… he has given me really good advice to help with Baileys continued training if I need any more advice or help I know who I will be calling… And if I go on Holiday and I can’t take Bailey with me I know where she will be staying … I would definitely recommend anyone to go with Breckland Dog Training and Steve I really don’t know what else to say… Except THANKS STEVE…
Dear Steve,
Lizzy has just got back from her first walk with Winston. What a relevation… I watched them walk together and it was wonderful to see. No need for the halti collar, he was perfect. It was a joy to see my wife enjoying her dog at long last. Just an email to thank you for your superb training and help with Winston. We wish you all the best in the future and will keep in touch as well as spreading the word about your company. Once again, thank you.
Steve has helped us with our new Cockapoo puppy since he arrived at 8 weeks. He always gives practical, workable advice and always feel inspired when he leaves. Would recommend him to anyone as very friendly ( but honest) and getting results
I cannot thank you enough Steve for the help and support you gave me while making one of the biggest and most difficult decisions of my life. Your obvious love of dogs shone through in all our dealings and I will be forever grateful to you for the kindness and compassion you showed. Thank you from the bottom of my heart
Very informative and within a few minutes of arriving at my home trained my Cockerpoo to sit/stay. Not to jump up. All without treats, instead rewarded with praise and fun. Puppy & I given homework. Looking forward to our next lesson.
